Two Things You Should Know About Me:
- I Love Food. (Yes, I know I’m skinny, but I eat oh!)
- I’m Lazy. Like, really lazy. Exercise? God forbid! You won’t catch me sweating on purpose.
So, with that in mind, let me gist you about one holiday experience that still makes me laugh (and cringe) till today.
Some years back, my family decided to spend Christmas in Ghana. We had family friends there who were excited to show us around. They planned all sorts of events, but the one that stood out was a trip to Kakum National Park for their famous canopy walk.
Now, you need to understand something: the day of this trip, I had not eaten breakfast. In my house, this is a big problem because my family knows I am basically useless until I’ve eaten. I told them o, but they didn’t listen.
The Day It All Went South
That morning, I woke up late and was still fooling around when it was time to leave. My mum was already fuming: “You’re not okay! Let’s be going!” So, we jumped in the car and set off without my beloved breakfast. My stomach was crying for food, but my family just ignored me. We got to the park, and everything was lovely. Warm weather, beautiful views, and they gave us a tour guide to show us around. But, ehn, 30 minutes into this hike I started seeing stars.
The Fainting Drama
When I tell you I felt dizzy, I’m not joking. My body was like, “Oh, you think you can be doing gymnastics on an empty stomach? Watch this!” Next thing I know, I’m on the ground, and people are screaming. Someone was fanning me with their slippers, and I could hear my mum shouting, “I have killed my child o!”
The drama was too much! Me, I just wanted food, but here I was, with my entire family in panic mode. They eventually got someone to carry me on their back and take me back to the huts. I was so weak, I didn’t even argue.
What About My Family?
Now, here’s where it gets really funny (or annoying, depending on how you look at it). While I was being carried like a baby, my entire family continued the hike. They left me there to go and enjoy the canopy walk without me! Even my dramatic mother who thought she had “killed me” still went ahead.
Moral of the Story: Don’t Play With Your Breakfast
At the end of the day, they all came back showing me pictures of the canopy walk and how amazing it was. Meanwhile, I was just there, recovering and feeling sorry for myself. If you ever visit Kakum National Park, please, don’t be like me o! Eat something before you go and pack snacks!
As for me? Well, I learned my lesson: Food first, adventure later.
And that’s the story of how I fainted in Ghana because I missed breakfast. 😂 If you ever find yourself in Ghana, Kakum Canopy Walk is worth checking out (just don’t forget to eat o!).
